Respite for caregivers
Most caregivers do not want to hand anything over. They want a few dependable hours each week when they are not on call — without feeling like they parked someone somewhere.
That is the whole idea behind respite, and it only works when both halves are true.
01
Respite simply means someone else takes responsibility for a defined block of time. It can be a few hours, a regular weekday, or a longer stretch. It can happen at home, somewhere else, or through a program.
What makes it usable is predictability. An occasional favor is a kindness. A standing Tuesday and Thursday is something you can build a life around — a job, an appointment, a plan you do not have to cancel.
02
It is not difficult to find someone to sit with your father. It is much harder to find somewhere he looks forward to going.
That difference decides whether respite lasts. When the day is dull, families quietly stop going and the caregiver is back where they started. When the day is genuinely good — conversation, music, a decent lunch, people who know his name — the arrangement holds, and nobody has to be persuaded on Tuesday morning.
We will not tell you how you will feel about it. We will only say that the hours are yours, and that they are real hours.
03
None of this requires justification. Time away is part of how caregiving stays possible over years rather than months.

Evergreen is a weekday daytime community. Members arrive in the morning, spend the day with us, and go home in the evening. Memory and cognitive support is woven through the day rather than run as a separate track.
Arrival, coffee, conversation. Door-to-door transportation is available within our service area, so getting here is not another thing on your list.
Movement and creative work — chair yoga, gentle strength, painting, music, discussion — then a chef-prepared lunch eaten together at a real table.
Games, cognitive activities, live music or a guest speaker, and a wind-down before going home. Trained staff are on site throughout the day, with medication reminders handled quietly.
Families choose 4-Visit, 10-Visit or 20-Visit memberships and build a rhythm that fits the week. Membership & Pricing · Paying for Care covers grants and programs that may help offset the cost.
